Food is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat. It’s headquarters are in New Delhi. Food licenses in Gujarat have been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which is a consolidating law related to food safety and regulation in Gujarat. A food license online is mandatory before starting any food business. All the manufacturers, traders, restaurants, dairy farms, importers, and exporters who are involved in the food business are required to obtain food registration. A food license in Gujarat is a 14-digit registration or license number that must be printed on food packages.

Types of Food License in Gujarat:

The food license of different types are based on turnover, scale of business, and type of activity. The criteria are specified below:

Food Basic Registration:

This is for small businesses or startups that have an annual turnover below Rs. 12 lakh. It can be upgraded to a state license as your sales level increases.

 

Food State License:

This license is for mid-sized companies that have an annual turnover between Rs. 12 and 20 crores.

 

Food Central License:

This license is for large businesses with an annual turnover above Rs. 20 crore.

It is also required in cases where you need to supply food at government offices or import / export food products.

 

Note: (Basic Requirements):

(1) In the event that any food operator operates in more than 10 states, the operator is required to have a central registration.

(2) For importers and exporters who want to apply for FSSAI registration, they require an IEC code before obtaining a FSSAI license Gujarat.

(3) The brand owner has to display the FSSAI logo and license number on the food package.

 

Documents required for a food license in Gujarat:

  1. Declaration form.
  2. An authority letter.
  3. Food Safety Management System Plan or FSSAI Certificate.
  4. Electricity/Water Bill (Business Place).
  5. Copy of property paper (if owned property).
  6. A copy of the rental agreement (if renting property).
  7. Copy of the Aadhaar card or voter identity card of the proprietor, partner, or director.
  8. Form IX: Nomination of Persons by a Company along with the Board Resolution.

  1. A blueprint or layout plan of the processing unit.
  2. List of Equipment and Machinery.
  3. List of food categories desired to be manufactured.
  4. Pesticide residues report of water.
